My friend Blair's mom is...fantastically crazy. She and her husband have made gobs of money (she was a Judge, now retired, and he is a lawyer)...and instead of being completely ostentatious with their house, or a boat, or with cars (although a Bentley and Aston Martin pair is pretty ridicK)...she has so much stuff that is expensive IN the house. Try - $4000 for a Jay Strongwater mirror, or a home movie theatre (8 seats). Or, during Christmas, dozens of Swarovski, Waterford, Baccarat, and Lladró ornaments, figurines, bowls, and glasses...(list non-exhaustive).
Anyway, I just spent 5 hours helping her dismantle her very intricate christmas decorations (9 trees)...and I don't think I have ever seen so many Lladró christmas bells. I mean, it's completely fabulous and endlessly more classy than other rich families' ways of spending money...but still a little crazy/amazing/hilarious.
She also has a shoe collection that is unreal. Her favorites (based on pure numbers) would be Jimmy Choo, Rene Caovilla, and Chanel. But that is another story, for another day.
