Miami heart

I don't care what anyone says about Miami...I absolutely love it. It feels like a different country from the rest of Florida...and not in a bad way (in fact, I prefer it that way, since most of Florida is so fucking busted).

I had to be in Miami this morning to get my student visa to go to France in January. Took the early flight (6 am), was done with the consulate at 9.30, and then hopped right back to the airport and was back in Tampa by 2. But, I did manage to take some pictures and walk around "Park Avenue of the South" (Brickell Avenue).

Anyway, just thought I would make my love known. Could totally see myself there after school...

Ps - sorry for the dark photo...

I was bored in class yesterday, and thought I would tally up the total amount of money I have spent on luxury bags/shoes/accessories over my life...and guess what I came up with?

$2,000? NO

$3,000? NO

Try $6,635, over the course of 4 years. That is prada messengers and backpacks, wallets, prada clothing, lots of Louis Vuitton stuff...and a gucci wallet thrown in...oh, and some YSL stuff I got in California a year ago...

jesus H christ! RIDICULOUS.

and to think I am considering trying to save for a $4,000 bag....HAHAHAHAHA. how many prada wallets is that?!

PS - the most expensive item I own was $1,650 at the store in June.

400 miles roundtrip...

it was a busy day from Sarasota to Miami and back. Tierney went to Brazil for 10 days and she needed someone to take her to Miami...enter me.

I remarked on just a few things today:

-people who drive Pontiac Azteks CANNOT BE TRUSTED/FOLLOWED
-i also dislike those who consistently ride their brakes. braking is bad.

-the everglades are glorious...and Alligator Alley is a pleasure to drive

-I'm still in love with Hermès (stopped in Naples briefly)

-I would definitely consider living in Miami
-or Naples, given the right job (read: high-paying)

I do love it. Driving 90mph with no cops to be seen doesn't hurt either ;)

Hermès wonderment...new blog I LOVE

http://www.decadesinc.blogspot.com/

best blog...EVER. well, i'm vaguely addicted to dlisted.com, but dear lord...won't you bring me a vintage/used H kelly??

There is something very...thrilling about used items, items that are more of a "find" because they aren't available in stores (and are generally from many years past). When I was in NYC last summer, I spent so many hours browsing the selections at consignment shops in NoLiTa and SoHo. I loved looking at all the 90s Chanel coats, and the old Fendi bags. And now, that excitement extends all the way down to Florida, where I can view this adorable blog...with the occasional H birkin or kelly...

I want a foldable kelly so bad!

scratch

...all that LV bullshit from a couple weeks ago. All i really want is duffles, briefcases, wallets, watches, shoes, and RTW from Hermès. Hahaaaa

I mean, I guess I go back and forth, but like...all of the other people who like LV as much as I do/think I do are so damn boring/classless. All they want is the LV ish all over everything...and that's exactly what I don't want. I just want nice leathers that ooze quality. And good stitching, and good linings.

boo. the house of H is so expensive. I will never get my Victoria Duffle...lol

here are some pictures of the t-reg and audi...

courtesy of Ebay, please excuse my usage...don't sue me

at the VW dealership...

my favorite part about having to take my car in to get fixed is being able to sit in a bunch of different cars that I rarely get to see up close. Take for instance...the Audi A8. Such a nice car. The interior is cozy without being too cramped or small feeling, and the materials are just...BUTTER. I'm not huge into the Audi thing, I get a little bored with them...but I swear, I would drive this car over a Merc S-class or BMW 7-series any day. I sat in the black 2005 A8 for like 20 minutes, playing with its navigation system...really easy to use.

Then, there was the VW Touareg V10 TDI (diesel). Whew that car is nice too. In comparison to the Range Rover, BMW X5, and Lincoln Navigator that were also on the lot, the T-reg was the nicest! The interior is so nicely designed, executed, with good materials...and actually FEELS like an SUV, without being a truck. the bmw felt way too car-like, for my tastes. PLUS, the VW's engine is the fantastic V10 TDI, which supposedly is near-to as fast as a porsche carrera...a claim I have yet to prove ;), but still exciting nonetheless...

So, in closing, I would like to trade my junk 02 Passat and get an 05 Audi A8, black with black leather, and 19" wheels. OK?? How much do I owe you??

I'm having a "I want everything" moment

Here is a list of all the things I would love to have, right now, most of which is Louis Vuitton unless otherwise noted:

Taiga Stanislav - $1720 (carry duffel)
Taiga Igor - $1640 (casual briefcase)
Utah Kiowa Tote - $1940 (lovely tote)
Taiga Portefeuille Accordeon - $650 (wallet on chain)
Damier Macao Pochette - $505 (basically a wristlet ;)

That is all (for now!) hahaaaa

Hermes Cape Cod Double-Tour Maxi OR Hermes H-our Maxi?

?>>?>???>>>???

Sarasota County Fire Department

As a resident of Sarasota County, I am protected by the Sarasota County Fire Department, Station 4, which is on Old Bradenton Road, about a mile or so south of New College and my house. Engine 4 is a 2006 E-One Typhoon, one of 3 delivered the the department that year (others at E1 and E3)...and Rescue 4 is a 2006 Sterling Acterra/MedicMaster ambulance. Both are pretty impressive. I am from Tampa, and Tampa is exclusively Pierce vehicles...it's nice to see a change of makes and models here and there ;)

Anyway, I just think its interesting to think about the number of times (and the variety of incidents) I see E4 or R4 screaming their way towards. For example,

a couple of weeks ago - car vs. moped, woman severely injured, possible fatality, but i think she was ok, US41 & 47th street
last tuesday - car wreck, very minor, University Pkwy & US41, just south of school
last thursday - automatic fire alarm in 'Z' dorm at school
tonight - 'structure fire' that turned out to be men working on the roof of the dining hall at school

anyway, I just wait for the day that something happens on my street...once in a while I can hear them going up or down US41, but mainly i just happen upon them by luck ;)

that is all

fucking men

why do i fall for the straight ones? it's such a problem, because i see this image of easy, no-drama love, and it seems so much more appealing than bitchy horrible gays who just play endless games.

plus i fall hard and i fall fast, which is really problematic.

boo

i am me and have only ever been me

I believe this isn't something that others can understand, because by nature it is unique to me, but I will do my best to describe it accurately -

I was born into this body/this mind, and I live my life behind these eyes, with this body. I was nothing before this, and seemingly nothing after, but I exist in life, with friends, with family, with history and future, interests and ambitions, but when it comes down to it, the entire world on which I walk and breathe and live is centric to me (seemingly), because I am existing only behind these eyes and this body.

This is so weird to explain, but sometimes i get this really odd feeling of alone-ness, or like nothing that I do matters. But most of the time I live life normally, without this odd feeling...I was just thinking about it...

damier uzes

I am a complete bag freak. I love designers, I love the details, I love soft, buttery leathers, and utilitarian toiles and nylons. For me, it's the whole effect, not just one aspect or another. The lining of a bag should be just as interesting as the outside of a bag...or at least fit in with the overall design scheme. And it should never look cheap. But besides that... I am a big Louis Vuitton fan. Not in the traditional sense...I own only one small accessory that is monogram canvas (brown with yellow Ls and Vs), and I rarely fawn over the typical and boring (read: speedy). But Louis Vuitton regularly releases bags that are so delicately precise in their decor...its quite amazing. Hermès makes beautiful things with simple leathers and skins, and by-hand (read: time-consuming) construction techniques, but there is a place and a time for H, as there is a place and a time for LV. I tend to like LV, just because Marc Jacobs throws everyone for a loop every season...there is always something new and different. (But at what cost to the brand image? We'll find out sooner or later). For the moment, his stuff is pretty brilliant, and it sells, and I like most of it (although a gent named Paul Helbers does the menswear).

My current obsession is the damier canvas uzes tote:

I used to feel really girly with totes, but lately they are the easiest bags to just throw all my crap in, and cart to class...much easier than messing with zippers and backpacks...plus all my other bags are pretty form over function (read: too small).

Anyway, I like this one a lot. I think it goes for $1500...maybe more. I can't seem to find it on vuitton.com or eluxury.com, but I know it's out there!

I also like the Altona PM, as a briefcase...it would be sorta fun to have for class...maybe a little dressy, but still fun. Not too dressy, since it's checkered...

jeSUS

time has passed so quickly. Last week was crazy...had a ton of ish for intermediate micro, then an exam...and then Chloe left for London on Friday, so thursday night was drunken/emotional/whatever. I have been spending so much money lately...on food and gas. i think my car has decided to be less fuel efficient, for no apparent reason. And i just happen to eat a lot, and not just any food...mainly expensive protein.

The weekend has been pretty chill...jess and i and tierney went to the middle-america mall in south sarasota saturday, which was fun...i guess. the building itself is actually pretty nicely designed, with lots of natural light. otherwise the store selection was dismal. gap, hollister, charlotte russe. blah. I miss international mall (tampa). I love walking through neiman marcus, and its nice to have the option of walking through gucci and louis vuitton, although if and when i can afford those things, it's definitely not in tampa...

BOO Tuesday

God. Sitting in Programming, wondering why I ever thought this would be a good filler class. I'm taking 1 very hard French class, 1 very hard Economics class, 1 relatively easy econ class, and this. But, my life is essentially dominated by the former 2 classes, which leaves very little time for the developmental econ class and this class...and, as icing on the cake, I have absolutely no idea how to write programming code.

"Introduction to Programming" isn't so much intro (basically spoon feeding whatever the subject matter is), as it is varying levels of World of Warcraft enthusiasts, all with Cocaine energy drinks and custom computers in-hand. Oh, hah, and our professor has the best stereotypical-computer-science-name: Leon Kaganovskiy. Originally from Ukraine, he got his masters and PhD from Univ of Michigan. Now, he stands at the front of the one sizeable powerpoint-friendly lecture room, and talks about java code for an hour and 20 minutes, twice a week. Me and Aditi (my partner in being completely lost) tend to sit and do other productive things (like this!) during lectures...

At least the hard part of the week is almost over. Today was problem set III for intermediate micro, tomorrow is a 5 page french essay, and then thursday and friday should be a breeze...

Oh Leon. What are you talking about? I do love his glasses, though. Gigantic brown plastic frames, clearly carryovers from the 1980s Soviet Russia. HAha. that was probably way off...(and fairly un-PC).

Oh jeez. Today was so blah. Got up late, missed my eye doctor appointment, went to the gym, made a fool of myself by asking a guy out via note-on-car, except all i gave him was my email address. Came home, went back to sleep...

But, party earlier tonight with our neighbors Eric and Josh. We had a little barbeque with them beforehand, which was sorta fun, sorta awkward...and then we went to this terrible house party near their school (Ringling). It was full of bros, hos, and everything in between. It was like watching a girls gone wild video...or like...being at a normal school. New College parties are always awkward and uncomfortable, with lots of stale conversation about aristotle or development in africa. But no, this party was ALL beer pong. I sat with tierney on the sidelines and people-watched, which actually made for a pretty satisfying evening...

Alas, guy from gym not gay. Serious downer. I'll be happier tomorrow...going home to test drive cars with my brother (Acuras i think...).

Friday, September 14

I now have a blog. Scary. I had one once before...a xanga, as it were...and I think I ended up putting a bunch of really terribly personal things on it...only to detest its very existence less than 3 months later. Oh middle school...

But yes, here I am, older and wiser, eating a snack before going off to the gym.

I saw a movie with Tierney this afternoon. The Brave One. It was very good, in my opinion...about a vigilante killer in new york. Jodie Foster is so f-ing serious/hardcore. All her movies are like "DIE BASTARD IM GOING TO EAT YOU!" or something along those lines...i mean...panic room, flightplan...all that...and apparently her first movie roll back in the day (according to my roomate Jessica) was playing a prostitute. I like her though. I think she's a good actress. Definitely does drama well...

But yeah. Woo for first wall post. Err, blog post rather. Facebook has been my principal online representation of myself for so long...
